10 New ENGLISH WORDS You Need to Learn for 2022

Every year new words enter the dictionary but new  words are also created by various generations.  

There is no doubt that sometimes it can  be quite difficult to keep up with hot  

and trending slang terms on social media  and beyond. So in today's lesson I'll be  

joined by Cassé and we'll be sharing 10 of  the hottest trending words and their meaning  

so that you can start understanding and using them  in 2022. Because here at RealLife English we guide

So our first word is one of my  favorites. It's not necessarily new,  

but it's definitely here to stay and a hot  and trending word. The word is "cringe."  

This means that something makes you feel  embarrassed, awkward or uncomfortable.  

It makes you cringe. There's even a facial  expression for this which is something like...  

And an example sentence might be "I cringe when  I look at old photos of me in High School." 

So this word has been one of the trendiest words  recently. It's the word "lowkey." So lowkey is  

used as an adjective to describe something that  you might not want others to know explicitly  

or to describe a feeling or desire without seeming  too eager. For example, you might confess to  

lowkey loving BTS's new song. Or to lowkey using  Tinder. It also has a similar meaning to "sort of"  

or "kind of." So, for example, you could say  "I'm lowkey happy that class was cancelled." 

It's important to note that vaccines have  been around for decades though and it's just  

mainly because of this pandemic that has  affected the whole world that this has  

become a really trending word. Vaxxed means that  you've received a vaccine. So this one is a little  

bit controversial given that some people have  been labeled anti-vaxxers meaning that they are  

against the covid vaccine and maybe others. But  this word has become a huge part of our lexicon  

thanks to COVID-19. Some variations  are "double vaxxed" and "fully vaxxed."  

So this came about when people started receiving  the second dose of this particular vaccine  

and maybe if you're fully vaxxed you receive  two doses or even the booster shot as well. 

Our next word is tea and there are multiple ways  you can use it for example if you are "sipping the  

tea" you are minding your own business. However  if you are "spilling the tea" or "having tea"  

you're about to share some juicy gossip.  Vibe is a feeling that someone gives you,  

for example, you could like or dislike someone's  vibe because they give you good or bad vibes. You  

could also tell someone not to "kill your vibe"  meaning you don't want them to affect or ruin  

your good mood or feelings. Like in the  famous Kendrick Lamar song of the same name. 

Learning new words can be lots of fun but  it can be difficult to remember the words

So this next word is quite interesting, it's  the word "Extra." So we use it when someone is  

either "over the top", "overreacting"  or "overdressed" for an occasion.

"Binge watch" is super trendy now given  all the streaming services on offer.  

Not having to wait each week for a new episode  of a show in most cases means that we can watch  

consecutive episodes of a show in a short  frame of time and basically binge watch it.

So this word is quite spicy it was made popular  by Jada Pinkett Smith during one of her red  

table talks. It's the word "situationship."  A situationship is when a relationship  

is more than friends but less than a couple. Staycation is a word that again became popular  

due to COVID and it being harder to travel. This  word has been trending for a couple of years now  

but it's here to stay for sure. It combines "stay"  and "vacation" to form "staycation" meaning a  

holiday or vacation you take in your home country  so you don't have to travel too far. For example,  

"Next week we're having a staycation, we're  going to a really nice hotel by the beach." 

Metaverse is a word you're bound to hear more of  in 2022 thanks to Mark Zuckerberg. The Metaverse  

is a digital reality that combines elements  of social media, gaming, augmented reality,  

virtual reality and cryptocurrencies  to allow people to interact virtually.
