regularly for our own enjoyment usually a hobby is  something you do for fun you don't get paid for it  

many people distinguish a hobby from an ordinary  leisure activity by suggesting that some kind of  

knowledge or skill is developed by a hobby so for  example watching television is often thought of as  

just a leisure activity not a hobby hobbies can be  something you do mostly on your own like gardening  

knitting woodworking or juggling or hobbies can  be something that you do mostly with other people  

like bowling playing basketball acting and playing  board games for some people learning a foreign  

language such as English could also be a hobby  here are some vocabulary words and phrases that  

we often use to talk about our hobbies let's  start with an easy one model the noun model  

has two main meanings one meaning is an example  used to follow or imitate so a model sentence  

is a sentence which shows you how a vocabulary  word works in our in our videos we often use  

many model sentences as examples but that's  only one meaning of the word model the other  

meaning of the word model is a three-dimensional  representation of something so some people enjoy  

building models people make model buildings  model airplanes model trains and even whole  

villages you can make models out of different  materials two models can be made out of plastic  

or wood or metal or even toothpicks so someone  might tell you I enjoy making model airplanes  

or I like to build models and once you've built  a model you might also spend some time painting  

it which was also a hobby here's another useful  vocabulary word for hobbies and actually this  

one word is part of a whole family of words and  that word is the verb collect to collect means  

to bring together or to gather things together in  English you can say I need to collect my clothes  

and wash them or I'm collecting all my notes for  this class sometimes even abstract things can be  

collected such as I need to collect my thoughts  examples of things that people collect as a hobby  

include stamps coins trading cards and even dolls  someone who likes to collect things can be called  

a collector so collect is the noun for a person  who likes to collect things and the things that we  

collect together well together you can call them  your collection so a collection is a noun that  

means the things gathered together so someone  might say here is my stamp collection I enjoy  

collecting stamps another word that we use a lot  to talk about hobbies is memorabilia memorabilia  

are objects that people collect because they have  some historical interest for example some people  

collect World War two memorabilia or memorabilia  from the 19th century that means objects that  

come from the era of World War 2 or from the era  of the 1800s memorabilia is an interesting word  

because it comes from the root word memory and  memory is the ability of our brains to remember  

things to bring back into your mind or your  thoughts something which was there before and  

another word related to memorabilia is memento  a memento is an object that you keep to remind  

you of some important person or event this is  a memento of my trip to Spain this is a memento  

of my mother right these are things that remind  you of your trip to Spain or your mother so from  

that word remember we have important words like  memory memorabilia and memento right and these  

are things that you can collect you can collect  memorabilia collect mementos can you remember all  

that so let's review our vocabulary words model my  hobby is making model air collect I'm a collector  

I enjoy collecting concert tickets do you want to  see my collection memorabilia I enjoy classical  

memorabilia like columns and Greek statues what  kind of hobbies are interesting to you you could
