learning English now back to the lesson in English  we sometimes use the words film or cinema or the  

phrase motion picture to talk about movies  in fact the word movies originally came from  

a phrase moving pictures because the way that  movies were created was as a series of pictures  

placed one after the other to give the suggestion  of movement there are several words that come up  

a lot when we talk about movies let's look at some  examples that you can expand your vocabulary with  

the first word is genre genre means what kind  of movie something is examples of movie genres  

include action movies which are about intense  stunts car chases and violence and then there  

are comedies which are movies which are made  to make people laugh romantic movies are about  

people falling in love and science fiction movies  show us what the future might look like so the  

question what kind of movies do you like that's a  question about genre for example you could answer  

I like science fiction movies I think that genre  is very interesting you probably already know  

that the people who appear in a movie are called  the actors and the people they play in the movie  

are called characters but did you know that all  the people who appear in a movie they are if you  

take them as a group we call it the cast of the  movie if you watch Marvel movies you know that  

they sometimes have very large casts with many  different movie stars in them in order to make  

a movie you need something called a script a  script is where people write down everything  

that will happen in the movie all the action and  the special effects and also all the lines that  

the different characters in the movie will say a  script is also sometimes called a screenplay the  

plot is the story of what happens in the movie  if you've ever seen the movie Titanic the main  

plot of that movie is that a passenger ship hits  an iceberg and sinks one of the other plots in  

the movie is that two characters Jack and Rose  meet and fall in love but only Rose survives the  

sinking of the ship and one more word is seen a  scene is a small part or sequence in a movie for  

example there is a scene in Titanic where Jack and  Rose first meet every movie has an opening scene  

which just means the first scene of the movie and  usually that opening scene will introduce us to  

the plot or some of the characters in the movie  let's review our vocabulary words for first of  

all some of our other words for move were film  cinema motion picture and we also had the word  

genre which genre of movie is your favorite  and for the different people in a movie we  

had actor character and then cast which actor  or character in the movie did you like who was  

your favorite in the movies cast he had script  or screenplay what did you think of the script  

for that movie and plot could you understand  the plot of that movie and then scene which  

scenes in that movie did you like best tell  us about some of the movies you like in the  

comments below which genre is your favorite who  is your favorite actor which plots do you enjoy
