today well students love to learn Advanced  vocabulary because they want to speak Advanced

English so today we'll learn Advanced  words and phrases in English so get

ready these are some English idioms that  are used when speaking about shopping they

important many idioms in fact contain the  word shop but not all of them have to do with

shopping some like Windows shopping and  shopping spree do others like talk shop  

don't as you know idioms are figurative  expressions like Proverbs or saying let's  

see to talk shop this this English idiom  means to talk about things having to do  

with work discuss matters concerning one's work  especially at a social occasion when this is

inappropriate I will give you some  examples so you can understand better for

example he's very boring all he does all day  is is a talk shop or we need to talk shop can  

you leave us even at the party they have to  talk shop let's not talk shop outside office

hours the shoplift I am sure you have  heard about this expression it's very  

common this simple idiom in English  means to steal something from a store  

by pretending to be a customer  for example he was C shoplifting

or Jack has been shoplifting from the  shop near his home can you believe

that maybe you think no one saw  your shoplift that candy or pair  

of earrings another common Advanced phrase  is shopping therapy I will tell you what it

means some people believe that shopping can  help a person deal with depression a bad

mood or difficult circumstances in life  as it brings a temporary feeling of  

happiness or relief so the phrase shopping  therapy is used that's very simple for

example she was very upset so I took  her into town for some shopping therapy  

or I need some shopping therapy I'm  feeling so miserable these days one  

more when I broke up with my boyfriend I  cheered myself up with lots of shopping

therapy another shop around well this idiom  means to go to different stores to compare  

prices for example I think I can get this dress  for a cheaper price I'm going to shop around

or I just moved into a new  apartment so I'm shopping around for

furniture to pay one's way this idiom  refers to a situation where people go  

to a restaurant with friends and everyone  pass for themselves either by contributing  

to one single check or everyone gets their  own individual check I will give you some

examples I'm going to pay my way you don't  need to pay for me or this time let me pay  

my way okay another example she paid her  way through college by working in the

library fit like a glove it means to  fit perfectly it is used primarily  

when speaking about clothes but is also used  when referring to any kind of accessories for

example yesterday we bought a new bed and  it fits like a glove in our room I'm so

glad or that suit fits like  a glove doesn't it common

expression I love these pants because  they fit like a glove and they are so

comfortable it's a bargain said when an  article is well below the usual price for

example that hand bag goes beautifully  with the dress and at that price it's a

bargain I picked up a really good bargain  in the market the car was a bargain at that

price buy a lemon the idiom buy a lemon means  to purchase a vehicle that that constantly gives  

problems or it stops running after you drive it  away for example if you want to buy a lemon you  

can buy this Taran secondhand car or the car  I bought was a real lemon it broke down two  

weeks later let's continue hit the shops if a  product hits the shop it becomes available for  

purchase for the first time for example her  latest album will hit the shops next Monday

or I managed to get a copy of the  book before it hit the shops another

example meanwhile his book Black  Coffee Blues is due to hit the shops in

mid-september it caed an arm and  a leg if an article or service  

costs an arm on a leg it is very  expensive indeed basically if you  

say that something costs an arm  and a leg you mean that is very

expensive for example the diamond  engagement ring cost an arm and a  

leg or a wick at that luxury  hotel can cost an arm and a

leg a similar expression is it cost a fortune  something that costs a fortune is very

expensive like look at the  price of that bag it cost a

Fortune it's a steel the expression  it's a steel means that something is  

so cheap that that it's almost as if  you haven't paid anything for it for

example I picked up a new iron in the  sail it was a steel that's a very common
