How to Use "by the name of"

Have you ever heard someone use the phrase "by  the name of"? It basically means "having that  

name." For example, I know a guy named Richard  Richardson. A variation would be: I know a man  

by the name of Richard Richardson. It's less  common, but you will hear it. Maybe I'm looking  

for this guy, so I ask," Excuse me. I'm looking  for a gentleman by the name of Richardson." If  

someone has a nickname or if they've changed  their name, we can say that person "goes by the  

name of." Do you know Stefani Germanotta? I'm  sure you do. She goes by the name of Lady Gaga.
