Of course, on the IELTS they're  going to ask you, where do you live?

You can say I was born and raised in Winnipeg.

저는 위니펙에서 태어나고 자랐다고 할 수 있습니다.

That's where I was born and raised.

그곳이 내가 태어나고 자란 곳이다.

Did you know that I was born and  raised to be born and raised in?

제가 태어나고 자라기 위해 태어나고 자랐다는 사실을 알고 계셨나요?

Now here your verb is to be, so of course  you need to conjugate it in the past.

이제 여기에 동사가 있어야 하므로 과거에 동사를 활용해야 합니다.

Simple because it's a completed past action I  

내가 태어나고 자란 완전한 과거 작업이기 때문에 간단합니다.

was born and raised in and then you  can state your city or your country.

You can add on to this to make it sound more  complex, to make you sound more advanced.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg,  but now but now I live in Ottawa.

Go even further and say I've  lived here for over 10 years now.

Notice I used the present perfect.

제가 현재완료를 사용했다는 점에 주목하세요.

You can also use the present perfect continuous  only for the verbs live, work and study.

live, work, Study 동사에만 현재완료 진행형을 사용할 수도 있습니다.

And this is for an action that started  in the past and continues until now.

이는 과거에 시작되어 현재까지 계속되는 작업에 대한 것입니다.

So in the present perfect continuous,  I've been living here for over 10 years.

그래서 현재완료 진행형에서는 여기서 10년 넘게 살고 있어요.

You can use 4 plus the specific number of years.

4에 특정 연수를 더해 사용할 수 있습니다.

You can even say four years, several  years, many years, a number of years.

4년, 몇 년 , 몇 년, 몇 년이라고 말할 수도 있습니다.

All of those are possibilities.

그 모든 것이 가능성입니다.

Now let's move on to tell me about your work.

이제 당신의 작업에 대해 이야기해 보겠습니다.

You can say I'm an engineer.

나는 엔지니어라고 말할 수 있습니다.

I know this is a very simple sentence,  

매우 간단한 문장이라는 것은 알지만

but most students get it wrong  because they forget the article.

대부분의 학생들은 기사를 잊어버리기 때문에 틀리게 됩니다.

You must use an article before your job title.

직위 앞에는 관사를 사용해야 합니다.

Most likely you're going to use a or an.

아마도 당신은 a 또는 an을 사용할 것입니다.

But it is possible to use the article the.

This is when there was only one position in the  organization and you have that one position.

For example, I'm the executive director, so  there's only one executive director and that's me.

Now.

If we use the it's more common to explain what  the organization is or what the company is.

But if you include just your job title with  AH or an you can but IT you don't need to.

Now add to this and add a general  statement about your specific job.

Being an engineer is rewarding.

Notice here being starts the sentence  because it's a gerund statement.

Jaron statements will absolutely  make you sound more advanced.

Jaron 진술은 당신의 말을 더욱 고급스럽게 만들어 줄 것입니다.

You could say I love using my analytical  skills to solve complex problems.

저는 복잡한 문제를 해결하기 위해 분석 기술을 사용하는 것을 좋아한다고 말할 수 있습니다 .

Love is a verb of preference.

사랑은 선호의 동사이다.

So you need the verb of preference plus a gerund.

따라서 선호 동사와 동명사가 필요합니다.

Love using.

사용하는 것을 좋아합니다.

You could say I enjoy collaborating with my team.

나는 우리 팀과 협력하는 것을 좋아한다고 말할 수 있습니다.

Enjoy is a verb, a preference.

즐겨라(Enjoy)는 동사, 선호이다.

So you need the gerund.

그래서 동명사가 필요합니다.

I enjoy collaborating with  my team and brainstorming  

나는 팀과 협력 하고

unique solutions to complex problems.

복잡한 문제에 대한 고유한 솔루션을 브레인스토밍하는 것을 즐깁니다.

So sure, you could say brainstorming solutions to  

물론 문제에 대한 해결책을 브레인스토밍한다고 말할 수도

problems, but adding adjectives  makes you sound more advanced.

있지만 형용사를 추가하면 좀 더 발전된 것처럼 들릴 수 있습니다.

You just mentioned something  positive about your work.

방금 귀하의 업무에 대해 긍정적인 점을 언급하셨습니다.

Why not make a contrasting  statement and start with?

대조되는 진술을 하고 시작하는 것은 어떨까요?

However, this is a transition word  that we use to make a contrast and  

그러나 이는 대조를 만들기 위해 사용하는 전환어이며

using transition words will  make you sound so advanced.

전환어를 사용하면 매우 고급스럽게 들리게 됩니다.

However, being an engineer  also has its challenges.

하지만 엔지니어가 되는 데에는 어려움도 따릅니다.

So before we had positives  about being an engineer.

그러니까 엔지니어라는 것에 대해 긍정적인 생각을 갖기 전에는요 .

However, and now a negative about  being an engineer, a contrast.

그러나 이제 엔지니어라는 것에 대한 부정적인 점은 대조적입니다.

So now you can share one of those challenges,

specifically another transition  word to make you sound advanced.

특히 또 다른 전환 단어를 공유하여 고급스러운 느낌을 줄 수 있습니다.

Specifically, I work around the  clock to meet tight deadlines.

특히 저는 촉박한 마감 기한을 맞추기 위해 24시간 내내 일합니다.

To work around the clock is an expression,  

24시간 내내 일하는 것은 표현이며,

and using expressions really shows you understand  the language more at an advanced native level.

표현을 사용하는 것은 실제로 고급 원어민 수준에서 언어를 더 잘 이해한다는 것을 보여줍니다.

And of course, to work around  the clock you can just imagine  

물론, 24시간 내내 일한다는 것은 상상할 수 있는 일입니다.

you work continuously, you work non-stop.

Now let's talk about hobbies.

이제 취미에 대해 이야기 해 봅시다.

You can begin with a gerund statement  that expresses your opinion on hobbies.

취미에 대한 의견을 표현하는 동명사로 시작해 보세요.

In my opinion, having hobbies is  integral to living a fulfilling life.

제 생각에는 취미를 갖는 것은 만족스러운 삶을 사는 데 필수적이라고 생각합니다.

So our gerund statement is  having hobbies is integral too.

그래서 우리의 동명사는 취미도 필수입니다.

But then I just added on to  that by expressing my opinion.

그런데 그냥 내 의견을 표명하면서 거기에 덧붙인 것뿐입니다.

So let's review some opinion words.

그럼 몇 가지 의견 단어를 검토해 보겠습니다.

Of course in my opinion, in  my view, from my perspective.

물론 내 생각으로는, 내 생각으로는, 내 관점에서는요.

Notice here from from my perspective.

내 관점에서 여기를 주목하십시오.

Personally, I think that you have at  least four different opinion words.

개인적으로 당신은 적어도 4가지 의견 단어를 가지고 있다고 생각합니다.

You can use these for in your  vocabulary when you go for your IELTS.

IELTS 시험을 볼 때 어휘에 이 단어를 사용할 수 있습니다.

Now let's get back to hobbies.

You made your general statement, your jaron  statement, beginning with an opinion word.

Now you can state your specific hobby.

I'm an avid hiker, or maybe I'm  an avid cyclist, Guitar player,

tennis player, whatever your hobby is.

So here the structure is to be an  avid and then you need a noun and

this means you have a strong interest,  passion or enthusiasm for that activity.

Now you can make a gerund statement  about why you enjoyed this activity.

이제 이 활동을 즐겼던 이유에 대해 동명사를 작성할 수 있습니다.

Hiking gives me the opportunity to disconnect  from my devices and enjoy the beauty of nature.

하이킹은 기기에서 벗어나 자연의 아름다움을 즐길 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다.

Now notice that the gerund statement  started with the verb hiking.

이제 동명사가 동사 하이킹으로 시작되었다는 점에 유의하세요. 예를 들어 기타와 같이 명사를 사용하여

You can also start a gerund statement  with the noun, for example guitar.

동명사 구문을 시작할 수도 있습니다 .

Guitar gives me the opportunity too.

기타는 나에게도 기회를 준다.

You could say playing guitar.

기타를 연주한다고 할 수 있습니다.

So you're using the verb form  or the noun form with guitar.

따라서 기타에는 동사 형태나 명사 형태를 사용하고 있는 것입니다.

Both are correct.

둘 다 맞습니다.

Now let's say you don't have any hobbies.

이제 당신에게 취미가 없다고 가정해 봅시다.

Don't worry, you can still answer  this question in a very advanced way.

걱정하지 마세요. 이 질문에 매우 고급 방식으로 답할 수 있습니다.

You can say until now my  focus has been on my career.

지금까지 저는 경력에 중점을 두었습니다.

However, I'm considering taking up and  then an activity taking up drawing.

하지만 저는 그림 그리기 활동을 시작하고 그다음에 활동을 고려 중입니다.

So notice we have our present perfect.

이제 현재 완료가 있다는 점에 주목하세요.

My focus has been because the action  started in the past and continues until now.

제가 초점을 맞춘 이유는 그 행동이 과거에 시작되어 지금까지 계속되고 있기 때문입니다.

Take up is the phrasal verb we use  specifically with hobbies and activities.

Take up은 특히 취미와 활동에 사용하는 구동사입니다.

To main, start and notice consider plus gerund.

메인으로 시작하고 동명사를 고려하세요.

I'm considering that's in the present continuous.

나는 그것이 현재 진행형이라고 생각하고 있습니다. 플러스 동명사를

I'm considering taking up take is in  the gerund because consider plus gerund.

고려하기 때문에 take를 동명사에 넣는 것을 고려 중입니다 . 라고

You could also say.

말할 수도 있습니다.

However, I'd love to take up drawing.

하지만 저는 그림 그리는 일을 하고 싶습니다.

The expression here is I would  love and then infinitive.

여기 표현은 I would love와 부정사입니다.

Perhaps it's simpler to remember  and it still sounds advanced,

so feel free to use this alternative now.

You can still add on a jarrant  statement about drawing, but use

the future simple because you're  not doing the activity right now.

Drawing will give me the  opportunity to disconnect.

그림을 그리면 연결을 끊을 수 있는 기회가 생깁니다.

You could say I'm confident that or I'm hopeful  

나는 확신한다고 말할 수도 있고,

that drawing will give me the  opportunity to disconnect.

그 그림이 나에게 연결을 끊을 기회를 줄 것이라고 희망한다고 말할 수도 있습니다.

You will sound very advanced.

당신은 매우 발전된 것처럼 들릴 것입니다.

Now let's move on to tell me about your family.

이제 당신의 가족에 대해 이야기해 봅시다.

You can say I'm from a close  knit family, close knit.

나는 친밀한 가족 출신이라고 말할 수 있습니다 .

Notice that pronunciation close knit.

발음이 밀접하게 연관되어 있음을 주목하세요.

This is an adjective that describes the family.

가족을 묘사하는 형용사입니다.

Now this is the same as saying  my family and I are very close.

이제 이것은 나와 가족이 매우 친하다는 뜻과 같습니다. 나와

My family and I, this is the subject.

내 가족, 이것이 주제입니다.

We, my family and I are very close.

우리, 우리 가족, 그리고 나는 매우 가깝습니다.

You can say everyone in my family gets along  because everyone is conjugated as a singular.

우리 가족 모두가 단수형으로 활용되기 때문에 모두가 잘 지낸다고 할 수 있습니다.

Everyone gets along really well or used  extremely well to sound more advanced.

다들 정말 잘 어울리거나 좀 더 고급스러운 소리를 내기 위해 매우 잘 사용합니다.

Here's a great expression.

여기 좋은 표현이 있습니다.

Everyone says I take after my mom in  looks and I take after my dad personality.

다들 제가 외모는 엄마를 닮았고 성격은 아빠를 닮았다고 하더라고요.

When you take after someone it means  that you resemble them physically.

누군가를 닮았다는 것은 그 사람과 신체적으로 닮았다는 뜻입니다.

So if you have a photo of you  and your mom and people say,  

따라서 당신의 사진이 있고 당신의 엄마와 사람들이 '

oh, I see the similarities, you take  after your mom because your mom came  

오, 유사점이 보이네요'라고 말하면 엄마가 먼저 오셨기 때문에 당신은 엄마를 닮고

first and maybe your mom takes  after your grandmother, etcetera.

아마 당신의 엄마는 할머니를 닮을 수도 있습니다.

But for personality, you can use this as well.

So maybe your dad is very funny and you are very  funny, so you take after your dad in personality,

a great phrasal verb to use on  the IELTS to sound very advanced.

Now let's move on to talking about travel.

You can say I'd love, I would love.

I'd love the opportunity to see Egypt,  to travel to notice, travel to Egypt,

but see Egypt, visit Egypt so know when  certain verbs require additional prepositions.

Travel to a location, visit a location.

If I could travel anywhere, I'd choose Egypt.

This is our second conditional because it's  

이는

hypothetical and notice we  have modal plus base verb.

가정이고 조동사와 기본 동사가 있다는 점에 주목하기 때문에 두 번째 조건문입니다.

Don't use the infinitive modal plus base verb.

부정사 조동사와 기본 동사를 사용하지 마세요.

Of course you can use a gerund statement.

물론 동명사 문을 사용할 수도 있습니다.

Visiting Egypt is at the top of my list.

이집트 방문은 내 목록의 최상위에 있습니다. 방문하고 싶은

Imagine you have a list of places you  want to visit and Egypt is at the top.

장소 목록이 있는데 이집트가 맨 위에 있다고 가정해 보세요. 현재완료를 사용하면

You can make this more advanced  by using the present perfect.

이를 더욱 발전시킬 수 있습니다 .

Traveling to Egypt has been at the top  of my list for as long as I can remember.

An action that started in the  past and continues until now.

에 시작되어 현재까지 계속되는 작업입니다.

Now, why not use an opinion word?

From my perspective, the pyramids are  one of our world's greatest treasures.

내 관점에서 피라미드는 세계 최고의 보물 중 하나입니다.

So you're sharing an opinion that  reinforces why you want to visit Egypt.

따라서 귀하는 이집트를 방문하고 싶은 이유를 뒷받침하는 의견을 공유하고 계십니다.

You can go on and say, and I'd revel in, I'd revel  in the opportunity to see them with my own eyes.

계속해서 말할 수 있습니다. 나는 즐거웠을 것입니다. 내 눈으로 그들을 볼 수 있는 기회에 즐거울 것입니다.

The expression is to revel in the opportunity  and then you're infinitive to see them.

This is a very advanced way of saying I  would thoroughly enjoy seeing the pyramids.

Now, as a bonus, let me share some phrases that  you can use when you want to clarify your answer.

So you're answering and you realize that  the words aren't coming out very well.

You can say what I'm trying to say is  and then you can change your thought.

You can express your thought a different way.

What I mean is what I'm getting at  is what I'm trying to get AT is to

put it another way, in other words,  and then you communicate your idea.

I suggest memorizing four of these because they

will be very helpful when  you're taking your IELTS.
