English Grammar - Present Simple tense

Hey everyone, this is Alex. Thanks for clicking and welcome to this beginner lesson on talking

about routines. So, these are things we do all the time, normally, every day, okay? So,

for example, in all of these examples, we are using one tense, okay? We are using the

present simple tense. In the first example, the sentence says, "I wake up at 6.30 a.m."

So, if I ask you, "What time do you wake up in the morning?" Do not say, do not say, "I

am waking up at 6.30." You must say, present simple, "I wake up at 6.30 a.m." Every day,

all the time, a regular routine. The second sentence says, "I eat breakfast at 7 a.m."

Every day, do not say, "I am eating breakfast at 7 a.m." If I ask you, "What time do you

eat breakfast?" Say, "I eat breakfast at 7 a.m." Eat, okay? If I ask you, "How do you

get to work?" You say, "I take the bus to work." All the time, routine, okay? So, not

"I am taking the bus," but "I take the bus to work." All the time, every day, routine.

Another example, "I study at the library." Not "I am study," not "I am studying at the

library." "I study at the library." Okay? "I drive my car on weekends." I have a car.

On the weekend, I usually drive my car. So, "I drive my car on weekends." Not "I am driving

my car." Okay? And finally, "I have dinner at 6 p.m." What time do you eat dinner? "I

have dinner at 6 p.m." Okay? So, do not get confused with the present continuous or present

progressive. If you do something all the time, regularly, every day, use the present simple
