My B1 English course is designed to give you everything you need to be

a more confident speaker of English.

gaining independence course in this course There are eight core

lessons each presented in seven parts All online and available

for you to study at your own pace.

Now the lessons contain a mix of video, text, interactive activities,

glossaries to download and writing tasks.

You also have a course workbook to download that

accompanies the entire course.

The important part is that although this is an online course, you are not alone.

You are supported by teachers and peers.

There are many points along the way where you will receive teacher

feedback on your work to ensure that you have fully understood the lesson.

You will also have access to live classes and a telegram group so that you can

ask questions and clear any doubts.

Here is what you will learn in each lesson.

Lesson one is all about connecting ideas, connecting

language, and connecting people.

In lesson 1 we learn about timelines and why and how you should use one.

Then we learn about organising your speech using sequencing

words and connectors/conjunctions.

You learn how to use already, just and yet so that you can express more precisely the

period of time when things have happened or not happened or whether we should

expect them to happen in the future.

You will learn how to introduce your opinions and respond to

those opinions of other people.

by agreeing or disagreeing.

You will learn how to express actions in progress as well as be able to show

the duration of the action that started in the past and have not yet finished

by using present continuous forms.

You will also learn about how to get involved in the ELAN community

to develop and enjoy your English.

Now in lesson two, we're moving forward.

You learn how to express future plans with to be going to.

You learn how to express future arrangements using present continuous.

You learn how to use modal verbs and semi-modals to express necessity,

obligation, wishes, desires, advice, recommendation, and possibility.

You learn how to make use of some of the functions of 'will', such as

making predictions, expressing future possibilities, presenting consequences of

a condition or situation using the first conditional, expressing consequences of

something that has just happened or just been discovered, and making promises.

You will also learn about the benefits of peer to peer interaction

within the ELAN community.

Lesson Three is where we focus on speaking skills.

You'll learn how to initiate conversations by making

observations or asking questions.

You learn how to prolong conversations by commenting and responding appropriately.

You learn: how to ask for clarification, how to talk about shared experience,

how to find out about the other person's interests, and how to use discord markers

to guide your speech and help others to know where you're taking the conversation.

And you learn how to make polite requests and offers.

You'll also learn more about the live classes within the ELAN community.

Lesson four is all about understanding.

This is all about practising active listening and developing the power to

be able to retain what you read, see, or hear in your passive vocabulary.

Lesson five is all about travelling in English.

You will learn how to talk about travel plans and understand

and use relevant vocabulary for planning trips and booking flights.

You'll learn how to understand and give directions.

How to use the second conditional to express hypothetical situations.

And you will also learn some more idiomatic expressions.

In lesson six we head to work.

You're going to learn how to identify and understand the

main parts of a job posting.

You will discuss your education and skills during a job interview.

You'll learn how to talk about your qualities and skills using

expressions with dependent pronouns.

You'll learn how to contact an employer to set up an interview for your dream

job at an English speaking company.

And you'll learn how to give an elevator pitch to present your

ideas concisely and convincingly.

Lesson seven is about coming together.

Here you will learn about celebrations and commemorations from around

the English speaking world.

You'll practise your comprehension skills and build your vocabulary further.

You'll also get a layered, step-by-step introduction to the passive form.

And then Lesson eight is where we bring it all together with your final project.

You will be introduced to PechaKucha, a presentation format which will enable you

to use as much of the language from this course as you can for a comprehensive,

satisfying and powerful final project.
