Learn English Words - Late and Live - Wed 21st March 2018 - part 2 - Uses of 'set'

I really hope there is can I just say sorry ever so sorry I don't know what

happened there but something went terribly wrong with the software so now

I am sitting in a slightly a more familiar place let just say a more

familiar setting oh hello there how nice to see you again

oh it I've missed you did you miss me I'm not sure what happened then it

wasn't my fault I can safely say it wasn't my fault it was sadly there is

one piece of software in my computer that keeps breaking and when that breaks

of course everything else stops working as well so it is the software that

allows me to do my streams and this is something that's been a problem for the

past few days because they have done an update this always happens when whenever

a software company updates their software there there is always a problem

of some sort so that's that's what's happening I'm very sorry about that

it is now what time is it it's ten minutes away from 11 o'clock and this is

I suppose you could call this part 2 of the live stream I'm very sorry about

that I really am very very sorry I hope that it didn't interrupt too much with

your enjoyment I'm just going to try something now if this doesn't work

please bear with me oh it does work now this is something I was hoping to do

tonight I was hoping to talk about a word at the English language that has

more definitions than virtually any other word and that word

sent cept can you see it on the screen the word set can be used as a verb and

also as a noun as well so let's have a quick look shall we

so if we use the word set as a verb it can often be used with objects and

usually with adverbial so for example you can use it instead of lai or stand

so you can set something Delanie set the mug of tea down Catharine set a chair by

the bed so you position something you put something in place you set it to be

set can also be situated or fixed in a specific place or position you can

represent a story play or film or scene as happening at a specified time or in a

specific place or specified place a private I novel set in Berlin so that is

the place in which the story occurs so you can see that the word set has

actually many many meanings many meanings indeed

generally I am polished and I have tried to stop thinking in my mother language

but it is my trouble so o are you saying that you are polish because sometimes

course think of English or thinking in English comes

with practice and time it is very easy to keep thinking in your own language

and that is a problem it can be a big problem but of course over time the more

words and the more phrases that you learn connected to the English language

the easier it should over time become not always the case sometimes it takes a

little longer and sometimes it doesn't it really just depends on how you teach

or how you learn so if you teach slowly or learn slowly it will take longer it

will take much longer

some more ways of using set

something to be set to be situated or fixed in a specified place or a position

as we mentioned earlier so to be set somewhere it means to be in a specified

location or place you can also mount a precious stone someplace

something typically such as a piece of jewelry a bracelet set with emeralds so

a piece of jewelry something that is set into a piece of jewelry in printing you

can arrange something as required so you can say the compositors refused to set

the type for an editorial so you set something for printed as required as

required

to sort out the software to make sure that it will work on Sunday because I
