today look there he is working away working so hard even though the weather

is not very good mr. Steve has decided to go outside and there he is look at

never seen you do this before I've never seen mr. Steve do this on camera ever so

there he is mr. Steve right now in the garden and this is something he's been

doing for the past few days Steve has been working busily in the garden and

this morning Steve was complaining he says why don't you film me when I'm in

the garden and I thought okay I will do it today

now you can see that the weather is not too bad however it is very windy here

today in England unfortunately so the weather is quite bad to be honest with

today we are having some problems with YouTube unfortunately YouTube has

decided to restrict my streaming I don't know why but for some reason I can't get

a very good connection on YouTube so I hope you can see me all right

here in the UK until at least the 7th of May so we might be doing this for

another month or maybe another two months

few people only a few people have come due to so it is just a small cake and a

small gathering with my family and it makes me happy well as long as you are

happy and as long as you have a happy day on your birthday that is all that

grow some Tomatoes another popular vegetable that people grow here in the

UK so a lot of people like to grow tomatoes in their greenhouse or you

things like tomatoes because they need a lot of heat a lot of moisture and they

thing very sad news we are losing lots of people I am also concerned about my

many care homes many places where elderly people are being looked after

preparing to raise their young so this morning I noticed at the back of my

house there are lots of birds flying around and they are all collecting

pieces of twig branches moss they are collecting them in their beaks so many

birds at the moment are building nests and they are preparing to lay their eggs

keep your social distance in a country like Italy where people are in contact

with other people is in our gene I think this is one of the things I've

noticed in certain countries people like to show affection to other people so

I've noticed with certain people or certain nationalities you might find

that people are more keen or more interested to hug or hold someone so

maybe when people meet in the street maybe they will hold or hug or maybe

they will kiss each other on the cheek so I think in certain cultures close

contact is actually a very important part of their their culture I think so

so maybe in Italy maybe people like having close contact with other people

maybe when they meet or greet maybe when they meet their friend in the street

they will give them a big hug and maybe a little kiss on the cheek however

during these strange times it might be seen as not a bad or not a good idea it

might be seen as a bad idea Noemi you have a beautiful view from your windows

in your house it's not too bad today even though the weather the weather

isn't very good outside it's really quite windy you can't really see it but

the wind behind me is blowing the trees everywhere and mr. Steve is taking

advantage of the fact that I'm not outside so he's quite happy because I'm

not outside disturbing his work so instead I can stay in the house and mr.

Steve can carry on doing his work as well in my garden there are lots of

grasshoppers I hate them hello Emanuela grasshoppers we do have grasshoppers

here as well very small ones normally they are green in color so yes we do

have a lot of grasshoppers here in the UK as well they are very small and

sometimes you can hear them in the grass making their little

noise a little noise like that Emanuela yes when we meet others we do use the

hug and we do kiss on the cheek so yes that might be one of the reasons why in

Italy people have been more affected by this particular thing people are more

they are used to having close contact with other people close social contact

but the same thing happens here in the UK when people meet each other quite

often we will hug somewhat or maybe we will shake their hand as a way of

showing respect or as a way of being polite we will often shake another

person's hand

ELISA says a flock of swallows live in my grandpa's house I love the swallows

you are very lucky there I hope you spend lots of time watching the swallows

because they build these beautiful nests and then they come out and they fly

around and I think they are one of the most active birds that I've ever seen

have the same meaning when we think of wisdom we often think of experience that

we've had experience that we've gained gained things that we've learnt as we've

gone through life so not necessarily things that we've learned in school

quite often we see wisdom as something that we learn as we go through life just

from experience so all of the experiences that come from the things

you do when you are not learning does that make sense

so you can actually learn things when you are not even trying to learn things

so I often see wisdom as something that you learn as you go along

some people say wisdom comes to those who are older we often see

elderly people as wise they often give very good advice Salvatore

moving around underground they will use their very large hands to dig and burrow

my favourite full English lessons one of my early full English lessons so this is

an excerpt from full English number three and this is a special one when I

was outside burning some rubbish and then we will be back live

can you see what I'm doing today I'm preparing to light a fire I have some

old wood and garden debris to dispose of to start a fire you need some dry

material this will light easily paper is the most common material used or small

pieces of wood will also do the job the material used to start a fire is called

kindling you use kindling to start the fire

kindling establishes the fire there is also the word Kindle which means to

start a fire kindling is a noun while Kindle is a verb

I will use a match to start the fire I will strike the match and light the

paper this will start the fire the paper will ignite the word ignite comes from

the Latin word for fire we sometimes use the word pyro to describe something

related to fire for example a person who is addicted to starting fires can be

called a pyromaniac the most obvious part of a fire are the flames and smoke

can you see the flames the movement of the flames cannot be predicted flames

move randomly we can use the word lik to describe the movement of a fires flames

the flames licked around the doorframe a flame flickers we can describe the flame

on a candle as a flickering flame a flame can shimmer flicker glow dance

the fire I'm lighting today will be safely contained this container is

called an incinerator you burn things in an incinerator the inside of the

incinerator will become very hot to keep the fire under control I must put this

lid on it now the fire will burn steadily and remain safe the small hole

in the center of the lid allows the smoke to escape in a controlled way

just like the chimney on a house wood

fires are fun to watch but they can also be very dangerous especially if they get

out of control

after the fire has gone out there is normally some debris left this gray

looking substance is called ash this is all that is left of what was burned you

can also put out a fire using water this action can be described as extinguish

you extinguish the fire you put the fire out

you have extinguished the flames the fire has been put out

here in the UK we have a tradition that involves lighting fires each year on

November the 5th people light large bonfires to commemorate the capture of a

group of men who were plotting to blow up the houses of parliament and kill the

then King of England in 1605 Parliament was and still is the meeting place of

the British government the plot however was foiled when Parliament officials

discovered one of the plotters a man named Guy Fawkes guarding the Gunpowder

this event became known as the Gunpowder Plot the celebrations take place every

November fifth it is known as Guy Fawkes night large bonfires are lit and

life-size effigies of Guy Fawkes are burnt on the fires fireworks are also

let off and quite often food such as baked potatoes are eaten there is a

reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot

and there it was one of my full English lessons one of my favorite full English

lessons a very simple subject but I hope it was interesting anyway looking at

words connected with fire flames and also the special festival of Guy Fawkes

night that we always celebrate every year who here in the UK on November the

word I'm going to mention these words now there are some words that we can use

and in this particular sense these are words that sometimes have an opposite

meaning however sometimes they have a similar meaning so you will see what I

mean in a moment I will show you what these words are

first of all we have the word regular and also the word irregular so we have

the word regular and irregular you can see here that these two words have look

very similar however they are opposites regular is something that is usual

something that is common something that has no faults or maybe something that

you see quite often a regular thing irregular is something that is the

opposite so in this sense regular and irregular are the opposites something

that is usual something that has no flaws something that is of an even shape

is regular irregular is the opposite it is the opposite word so it means

something that is not usual something that does not look the right shape

something that has a strange appearance as far as its shape is concerned regular

and irregular two words that can be used and they are both opposites however here

we go and this is the word that I was asked yesterday to talk about so we have

the words regardless and irregardless so we have the words regardless and

irregardless and the strange thing about these words is they mean the same thing

so when we say regardless or if we say irregardless they actually have the same

meaning and this can cause confusion for many people even native speakers of

English sometimes make the mistake of assuming that these words are opposites

so regardless it means leaving out things if you are regardless it means

you are ignoring certain things you are leaving certain things out you are not

involving something regardless you are putting something aside irregardless has

the same meaning even though they are different words they actually have the

same meaning and this is one of the reasons why sometimes the English

language can be very confusing even for those who use it as their first language

when all of the plants suddenly have their leaves

gray I think so you have a wonderful contrast between those two periods of

that has not been created naturally in nature it is artificial for example I

developed so those are not real flavors something artificial we can talk about

artificial intelligence as well so a computer a computer is a form of

artificial intelligence to a degree not completely so we don't have robots

walking around at the moment we don't have robots walking around saying hello

busy digging and clearing part of the garden so he's been actually busy

digging and turning over the land at the back of the house and I must say it

looks it looks rather nice I think Steve has done a very good job so can I have a

round of applause for mr. Steve for his busy work outside unfortunately as you

can see I don't know where Steve has gone I think he is gone for a tea break

however you can see can you see the Blackbird there is a blackbird wandering

around watching trying to find some insects so well done mr. Steve you have

done a very good job of that garden very good job and yes the Blackbird is now

picking off the insects so all of the insects that mr. Steve has revealed are

now being picked off by the Blackbird I don't know what's happened to Steve I

think he's disappeared come on Steve you have some gardening to do you are

neglecting your duty it is very hard to work but it's also a good one a lot of

houmous I will say one thing about the soil here there is a lot of

clay in the soil so I remember when we had some work done on a garage we had to

have all of the floor taken up because there was a lot of damp water was coming

into the garage so we had all of the floor taken up a huge job but underneath

there was clay it was it was real clay so the sort of clay that you make your

pottery from was actually under the house

so everything that this house sits on is actually clay there is a lot of clay

around here because of the type of rock and all of the formations that exist

this is where the English language can be very confusing so there are two more

words respective and irrespective so when we are having something that is

respective it is something that is connected to another thing or maybe we

are talking about things that are connected in some way respective and

irrespective are things that are not referred to or not connected to that

particular thing so you can see that these two words are used quite often as

opposites respective irrespective included or involved not involved

separate you are not including them in the group you are pushing them aside and

then we have something that really does prove how

confusing the English language is this is the thing that confuses a lot of

people about English sometimes you can have words that appear to be opposite

words however they are the same they have the same meaning and here is a good

example so we have two words flammable and inflammable so there are two words

flammable and inflammable a lot of people think that those words are

opposites however they are not because they mean the same thing so this is a

very confusing very confusing word flammable and the other word is

inflammable but in fact they mean the same thing something that is flammable

means that it will catch fire very easily or it will burn flammable

inflammable means the same thing so something that is inflammable is

something that will burn very easily it will catch fire very easily a good

example I suppose is petrol petrol is flammable

it is also inflammable which means the same thing so this is a very confusing

one and over the years many people have been injured they've had injuries caused

by the confusion between these two words so these days we often use this word

instead so we don't use inflammable we tend to use flammable it is much easier

to understand and there is less confusion flammable inflammable don't

forget they have the same meaning something will catch

fire something will burn it is a thing that

will easily start to burn if you put a flame near it

in a building you will call the fire engine you recall the fire brigade so

many years ago we used to say the fire brigade nowadays we call them

firefighters so a firefighter is a person who will come and they will put

your fire out if your house is burning they will come firefighter or fireman
