What a lovely day for walking  out and about i'm out and about

oh this is very nice i must admit this is  much better than queuing up in the shops

what a lovely day what a great  day to be out and about wow

happy because we are here again as live as  live can be in the countryside yes once more  

whilst everyone else is out queuing  outside the shops for their black friday  

deals i have decided to do the complete  opposite i've decided to come out  

into the countryside and do another live stream  so this is how i'm spending my black friday  

out and about talking to you live on youtube  i hope you are feeling well and i hope you can  

hear me all right as well doing something slightly  different today i am very far away from my house  

so i'm taking a very big risk i hope you can  hear me if you can hear me please say mr duncan  

we can definitely hear you and that would  be ever so nice and then we can get underway  

so as you can see we are out today the sun is  shining everything is looking very nice today  

so around the world many people are now having  their black friday sales but what does it all mean  

what are the black friday sales and i suppose i  could also say what are you doing for black friday  

have you ever bought anything in the black friday  sales have you ever done that at all i hope so  

for those who don't know what this is my name  is duncan i talk about the english language  

i teach on youtube sometimes i walk  around in the countryside like a lost  

soul a bit like today really that's what  i'm doing here today you see i'm walking  

around and i thought i would do something  slightly different but of course we also have  

you as well you are the most important  part of this because without you  

i would have nothing you see i would have no  live stream at all something slightly different

i'm oh can i just tell you something whilst i  remember you are also going to help me today to  

test a new piece of equipment that i'm trying out  so i might buy it i don't know yet but i'm trying  

something out it is well it is a microphone and  there it is you can see it there i'm wearing it  

on my coat and this allows me to walk around  completely free but the good thing is you will  

still be able to hear what i'm saying so now i  don't have to stand right in front of the camera i  

don't have to stand right next to the camera when  i'm talking to you it means i can wander around  

i can dance i can sing i can do anything  but i suppose i need to make sure it works  

all right i need to make sure that everything  is working okay yes the sun is definitely out  

i might move the camera slightly because yes  the sun is very dazzling today you've noticed  

it is it is actually a very sunny day today  can i say hello to the live stream yes it looks  

very busy already thank you very much for  joining me i've only been here for four  

minutes but already there are lots of people  watching thank you very much so i thought today  

because many people are rushing out including  here in england well when i say rushing out  

i mean they are rushing to their computers to  buy things online for those who don't know we are  

actually still in lockdown here in england so all  of the shops most of the businesses are actually  

still closed however there is good news and also  there is bad news concerning that the good news  

is that the full lockdown ends next week so next  wednesday will be the final day of lockdown it  

will end on the 2nd of december the bad news is  that many places will still have to have some sort  

of restriction some businesses will have to stay  closed some people will still not be able to work  

at their place of employment you see so for  many people things will not be changing at  

all isn't that shocking here in shropshire by the  way shropshire is looking very nice today would  

you like to have a look let's have another look  at the countryside and the scene surrounding me  

there look at that oh isn't that lovely i  must be honest i have picked a very good day  

to come out i think i have picked an  excellent day to do my live stream  

you can see today that the sun is definitely out  everything is looking rather nice in fact if i  

zoom in hopefully hopefully i can zoom in look  at that oh isn't that beautiful so there it is  

one of the most famous landmarks  in this area it is a large hill  

i will show you the name of the hill in a few  moments just give me a moment i will show you  

what the name of this hill actually is because  i decided to write it down on a piece of paper  

oh yes i have done some preparation today can  you believe it i've been very good with my  

preparation so there it is that is the Wrekin  it is called the wreaking so that is the name  

of the hill that you can see there on your  screen right now a very well-known landmark

some people believe that it is a volcano but  actually it isn't it in fact is not a volcano  

i wonder if you knew that but it actually isn't  a volcano at all so there it is right behind me  

it is the Wrekin so now you know the spelling of  the word as well for those wondering how do we  

spell the name of that mountain behind you so  now you know that is how you spell the Wrekin

it is looking rather nice today would you like to  see some other scenery as well okay then i will  

move the camera around slightly oh look at that  so this is i suppose you could say that this is  

typical english countryside so when people think  of the countryside this is probably what they will  

think of they will think of the rolling hills  the green fields and oh look down there you can  

see there is also a farm so if you look closely  down there there is actually a farm with cows  

so many years ago this particular farm used to be  a dairy farm but nowadays they've they've stopped  

producing milk and now they've gone into  something completely different can you believe  

this farm now produces spring water  so at this farm they have a small  

factory i suppose you could describe it  as a factory a place where they produce  

they bottle the fresh spring water because  around here you see there are many fresh  

springs there are many springs so that means  that the water coming out of the ground  

is actually safe to drink you can actually  drink the water straight out of the ground  

and as i move the camera around slightly more

there you can see in the distance i hope actually  i hope that i can actually show you the welsh  

hills today i wonder now i'm going to try and show  you the welsh hills but there you can see there  

are many things going on in the distance a lot of  people say that the countryside is dull and boring  

can i just say that it isn't the countryside  is definitely not dull and boring and as a way  

of proving it look at that isn't that nice so  it's looking rather nice today rather beautiful  

you can see there is a little village in the  distance that particular village is called  

harley harley and it is a small  village not many people live there  

it's a very small village i will try to zoom  in a little bit more so you can see it so some  

people might say oh mr duncan that looks like a  very typical view of the english countryside and  

you might be right you might actually be right  but where are the welsh hills you said mr duncan  

you were going to show the welsh hills well i  will try to show them but they are very far away

in fact i don't think i can actually show them  because they are so far away but if you look  

very closely you might be able to see very very  faint in the distance there are some mountains  

in the distance and on a very clear day you can  actually see snowdonia have you ever heard of

snowdonia look at that so now you get the overall  view of what i am looking at as well so we can all  

enjoy it together it is an absolutely beautiful  day here today and i'm really pleased that you  

can join me as well on the live stream by the way  i suppose i should say hello to the live chat hi  

live chat nice to see you here as well if you look  very closely in the distance there is actually  

a farmer doing something in his field now i  wonder if i can zoom in so we can see what is  

going on down there oh yes look at that there  is a farmer doing some work in his field now i  

would imagine that he's actually doing something  to help the water flow away we call it drainage  

so drainage is actually a very important part  of farming because when you get a lot of rain  

you need the rain to actually flow away you  don't want it to hang around because if you are  

trying to grow your crops or if  you are trying to feed your animals  

because the animals have to have grass to eat  then you need to make sure that the water will  

flow away so in the distance there you  can see there is a farmer he is using  

a small digger to move the soil so i i would  imagine what he's doing at the moment he's trying  

to to improve the drainage he wants the water  to drain away we will leave him to his job  

because i'm sure he doesn't want me filming  him live on camera i'm pretty sure he doesn't

so we are having a rather nice day today i will  say that we are having some very lovely weather  

today i feel lucky that i can actually come on  here and show you all of these magnificent views  

you might also be able to see some other mountains  

in the distance let's see if  i can move my camera slightly

oh yes look at that there is something interesting

now these are some very well-known  mountains around this area  

if i can turn the camera around come on  camera move around ah yes there it is

so those are some other  mountains in this area as well

on the right you have a mountain called paradox  and on the left you have a place called the long  

mind so those are two very famous landmarks around  here and every year millions of tourists come to  

this area to take a walk across not only the  long mind but also up to the top of cear caradoc  

oh look at that there are lots of  

lots of birds flying away there i think they are  pigeons they have been disturbed but not by me  

so the view you are looking at now is around  maybe 12 or 13 miles away so that's not nearby  

so that is a very long way away so around 13  maybe even 15 miles away a very long time indeed

now here in england lots of people are busy buying  things online because today is black friday of  

course but i thought i would do something  different i thought today i would come out

well except for that farmer's tractor i can hear  the farmer's tractor in the distance and there  

it is another view looking across oh yes i have to  be honest i think i have picked a very good day to

fuss so people are running around maybe there is  some panic maybe there is some frustration because  

people are trying to buy their their christmas  presents perhaps in the black friday sales we  

have pandemonium kerfuffle and fuss so all of  these things can be used to replace each other  

so at the moment a lot of people are fussing  about about black friday and that is because

it is the black friday sales what does black  friday mean why do they say black friday it is  

a very interesting question that i will try  to answer in business many people have to try  

and make a profit before the end of the year so  towards the end of the year all of the retailers  

will have a special sale and the reason why this  sale is so important is because it is the last  

month of the year it is the last opportunity for  retailers or people who have businesses to make  

a profit so when you are in debt if  you lose money you will be in the red  

if you make money if you make a profit  then we can say that you are in the black  

and that is why we say black friday what it's  trying to do is to help people who sell things  

people who run businesses large and small it helps  them to make a profit before the end of the year

their caravans and also their tents and they can  actually put their tent up or leave their caravan

jacket this coat i've had this for many years  and i bought it in i think it was in a sale  

about five years ago so i've had this jacket for  many years and i bought it in the sale i think it  

was half price so sometimes in the sales you can  get a very good bargain not always but sometimes  

if you look very closely and carefully you can  find you can find some interesting bargains  

this jacket is not levi's it is just a generic  brand nothing special although i do like the  

style you see i like the style of this jacket  it looks rather nice you see i think it suits me

i think this jacket does suit me and to be honest  with you i find it very difficult to buy clothes  

that look good on me because i'm very tall  one of the things most people notice is that  

i am quite tall which makes it very hard for me to  buy clothes especially trousers trousers and also  

coats so it's very hard for me to buy  coats and trousers that actually fit

shopaholic but i have to help my economy on this  black friday well yes some people like to wait  

you see so one of the reasons why sales are  always very popular is some people like to wait  

they like to wait until the sales begin  and then they can find a nice bargain

mr duncan there are now some gloves  that you can buy that allow you  

to use your mobile device without having  to cut a hole in the end of the finger  

so i like that i might try and do that  i might ask mr steve to buy them for me  

oh you see because at the moment i am writing  my letter to Santa Claus so at this time of year  

i always like to write a lovely letter to Santa  Claus asking him to send something nice to me  

when he flies over my house on the 25th of  december so at the moment i'm writing my list and  

the only thing i can say is i hope that  Santa Claus realizes that this year  

i have been a very good boy i have  been nice not naughty i hope so

will christmas be late this year you mean in this  country i'm not sure you see because next week the  

lockdown will end next week you see oh there's  someone coming oh i wonder if they're going to  

ask any questions about me like what are you up  to so yes next week the lockdown actually ends and  

some people will have freedom once more which  is nice of course i'm very lucky because i live  

in the countryside and it means that i can just  walk around and get all the fresh air i want hello

has been taken into care she's in a care home but  sadly because of coronavirus i'm not allowed to go  

and see her so i can't see my mother in person and  i suppose maybe this christmas i won't be able to  

see my mother either so it's it's a little bit sad  i must be honest i do feel a little upset by that

i like these kind of people they just wanted  to have a little bit of small talk thank you

society i suppose to move as mr steve  once said it allows the oil to move

i think what he actually meant was it oils the  the cogs of society so i suppose really when  

you think about it i suppose small talk chit  chat is a very good way of meeting new people  

and making new friends hello ibrahim please give  me some advice on how to learn english on my own  

i understand what you are saying but i cannot  understand everything and i cannot converse  

well with someone one of the problems  with learning english by yourself  

is meeting other people now i have two pieces of  advice here two pieces of advice first of all can  

i just say that you can learn on your own there  are ways of doing it if you listen watch repeat  

practice so you can do it by yourself however some  people also like to practice their pronunciation  

with others maybe in person or perhaps  through the internet so i suppose one  

of the best ways of doing it is to try and find  other people who are also interested in english  

so perhaps you could start your own group maybe  you could begin looking for other people who  

are also interested in learning english you  see so i suppose that is one way of doing it  

perhaps you could try and find people who  live in your area maybe people who are nearby  

try and create your own group so perhaps  you could form your own group on whatsapp  

or maybe you could put a notice in the local shop  or try to find other people who live in your area

so there are ways of learning english by yourself  and also there are ways of finding other people  

who are also interested in learning english  as a second language so that is my advice  

on this very chilly friday

not wearing a scarf is because i get too hot so  when you are walking and when you are doing this  

you can actually get quite hot because you are  constantly moving around so no i'm not wearing  

my scarf even though i probably should i can't  believe oh my goodness what can't you believe  

but you can't believe this is this what  you can't believe all of this here maybe

so one of the things that i am very grateful  for at the moment is the fact that i can  

go outside i can actually just walk around and  enjoy the countryside i am very pleased that  

i am able to do that so yes it is black friday  it is when many sales take place what about you  

have you found something in the black  friday sales have you found any bargains  

because at this time of year people do like  to look around and find some nice bargains

well one of the best ways of improving your  english is not just speaking or reading it is also  

listening as well so listening can really help  you to understand english because what it does  

is it creates an environment around you so  even if you don't have lots and lots of people  

to practice your english with you can still  create an environment by listening to english  

so that is one of the reasons why this is  so useful you can actually come and watch  

all of this live so everything you see is  spontaneous it hasn't been rehearsed or practiced

wolverhampton i used to study there for some time  

but i didn't know that you were there you were  living there i would have come to visit you  

how lovely that would have been very nice i did  live in wolverhampton for many years that is where  

steve lived so when i met steve he was already  living in wolverhampton i was living at home with  

my family in stafford which is not very far away  from wolverhampton so after meeting steve i moved  

to wolverhampton as well and that is where i  spent many years and then in 2013 we moved here to  

much wenlock in shropshire so that is where i'm  talking to you from right now in the middle of a  

large field in the countryside for those wondering  where i am but wolverhampton is actually a city  

so it wasn't a city in the past it was actually a  town but i think it was in 2000 in the year 2000  

it was actually made a city they said we will  allow wolverhampton to become a city so that's  

the reason why it is now a city instead of a town  yes they do have a very good football team they  

have their ups and downs a couple of years ago  wolverhampton wonderers were not doing very well  

but this year and certainly i think at the  end of last season they were doing rather well  

how do you know when something is a city or a  town that is a very interesting question normally  

it is based on the size and the population but it  can vary from place to place so wolverhampton is  

quite a large city i think i think there are maybe  600 000 people living in wolverhampton so it does  

have a very large population but yes it was made  into a city and i think that was in 2000 just

and uptown that's a very interesting question  again parts of a city well you can actually  

describe parts of a city as uptown and downtown  so i suppose it depends which direction you are  

going in sometimes of course uptown can  mean an area where wealthy people live  

and then downtown might be the area where  there is more poverty or maybe poor people live  

so it really does depend on what the context  is so there are different contexts you see  

downtown uptown in new york you see in  new york city you have uptown in downtown

suburban just means the outer  the outer area so the area away  

from the main city the urban area the  urban parts of maybe a town or city  

urban it is used in different ways of course even  the word urban can be used in many different ways
