How to Say HELLO in English | 5 Common Greetings

Eat Sleep Dreamers, I'm so sorry if that was one of your languages. I apologise for my

terrible pronunciation. Ok, here are five ways to say 'How are you'? in English.

Number one, 'How are you doing?' How are you, How are you doing? This is a simple, informal

way to say 'How are you?' Now at the beginning of it I would always put in something like

'Hey, how are you doing?' 'Hey, how are you doing? And I use it with my friends, with

colleagues. It's a very sort of informal way to say it.

Number two, 'How's it going?' 'How is it going?' 'How's it' 'How's it' we contract that together

'How's it going?' Now this is the one I use all the time. Whenever I walk into a classroom,

I'll say 'Hey guys, how's it going?' or whenever I see friends 'Hey, how's it going?' So this

is a really common, really super useful. Really super? Really useful phrase to use.

Number three, 'How have you been?' 'How have you been?' 'How have you been?' Now this is

a really great one, if you haven't seen someone for a little while you can sort of catch up

with them by saying 'Hey, how have you been?' and it's a good opportunity for them to tell

you something interesting they have done since the last time they saw you. So you might say

to someone 'Hey, how have you been?' and they'll say 'Yeah great, I just went on holiday' and

it's a great way to begin a conversation like that.

Number four, 'How are things?' 'How are things?' Again this is a very nice way to say 'How

are you?'It's informal, it's very simple. Again you might use it with colleagues or

with friends just to sort of catch up to see what they have been doing recently.

Number five, 'What's up?' not whatsapp 'What's up?' Ok, obviously whatsapp got the name from

'What's up?' Now this is a nice informal slightly American, I think it originated in America

but in British English we use quite commonly in informal British English. And again it's

a really nice way just to see how your friend or family member is doing. So you might say

"Hey, what's up?' 'Hey, what's up?'

There you go guys, there are your five great ways to say 'How are you?' in slightly different

ways. Now don't keep them inside, I want you to go out and use the language today. Go find

someone and say 'Hey, what's up?' to them, Ok? This is the best way, get it out of your
