Take a look at the following statements:

The first one is, "I really want to learn

English" "I really want to learn English."

The second one is this "I have a goal to reach a C1 level

in the next 12 months" "I have a goal to reach a C1 level

in the next 12 months." What is the difference between these sentences?

Well, the first one, "I really want to learn English"

is a desire, it's a dream and this is what I hear most

English learners say - they also say things like

"I need to learn english for my job." The second statement

"I have a goal to reach a C1 level within the next twelve months

is a goal - and setting a goal for your English learning

is one of the most powerful things that you can do.

This should be your starting point for your

English fluency journey. And here is why: Firstly,

having been a specific goal gives you clarity,

and it helps you understand exactly what you want to do

with your English. It gives you direction

and it gives you purpose. Secondly,

having a specific goal with a deadline helps you understand

exactly what you need to do to reach the level

you want to reach. Learners without goals

don't have this plan - they don't have this focus - and therefore

don't make as much progress. Thirdly

many English learners I speak with and see online

are really motivated to learn english one month,

but then a few weeks later they lose

motivation. Having a goal helps you stay motivated

and it helps you get that energy

get that motivation when you're feeling like you don't want to continue.

So, having a goal gives you motivation to continue

learning English. And finally, having a specific goal

with the specific date for your English learning - a deadline that you have

helps you make the right decisions on a daily

basis

Remember, learning English is all about doing lots of small things right

and having this goal will make sure that you do the right things

every day. Now, here is an inspiring quote on this topic

destination." So, having a specific goal with a deadline

is a fantastic starting point for your journey to English fluency.
