Uh, a number years ago. 

Uh -- The thinking vowel in American English. 

Uh -- This is our core sound, it's how I tell  

my students to try to find a low placement, it's  with that 'uh' as in butter vowel, open, relaxed. 

So if you're wanting to work on your  placement, just imitating that -- 

Uh, uh --

might help you find it.
