with the verb educate it means to teach

or give instruction to someone or to provide training or

information to someone from this word we get

education which is the process of acquiring knowledge and skills about any

topic so i am educating you

about english our 30-day challenge is providing an education in vocabulary

we also get the word educator from educate

and it means a person who provides an education

to others i am an educator but this word sounds very important it is

much more normal to call oneself a teacher or a professor

calling yourself an educator can sometimes sound

a little arrogant now the next word is subject a subject is a topic of study at

school examples of subjects include english

history and math a subject can also mean any topic that is being

discussed or examined so someone could ask

what subject is your favorite my favorite subject is math

or someone could ask what subjects did you study in school today today we

learned about how to write english sentences

right now our next word is assignment an assignment is a piece of

work which students have to do for a class

so here's an example sentence our teacher

gave us an assignment to write five english sentences in the past tense

assignments can also be called coursework

meaning work you are doing for a particular class

or course and they could also be called homework

which is work you are assigned to do at home

the next word is examination which is commonly shortened to just exam exam

an exam is a formal test which you take in a particular subject

so you might have an english exam meaning

your english class is testing you on how well you learned

some material a semester or a term is a period of learning

in a school or college usually each school year

is divided into two or three semesters for example at my university we have a

spring semester for classes between march

and june and then a fall semester for classes between september and

december semester is commonly used in american

style english but the word term is commonly used

in british style english at universities in your country when do the semesters

usually begin and end a class schedule

is a weekly list of which classes you are taking

on which days during a school semester for example my class schedule this

semester has classes on mondays tuesdays

wednesdays and thursdays i have a pretty good

schedule this semester in british english

a class schedule is called a class timetable

instead and our last word is for what happens when you complete

your education once you complete primary school which

in the united states means you have completed the 12th grade you

receive a diploma a diploma is a document which says you

have graduated or finished primary school when you

finish college you receive a degree

i have a degree in english from an american university

university degrees are sometimes called bachelor's degrees

because the degree is usually a bachelor of

arts or a bachelor of science in whichever subject was your major

let's review briefly education comes from the verb educate which also

gives us the noun educator at school we study different

subjects we complete assignments which is coursework or homework in each

subject and then we usually have to pass at

least one exam in each subject our school year is

divided into semesters or terms and each

semester we have a new class schedule or

timetable once we complete our education we
