powerful vocabulary series in this series we explain important vocabulary

words each day to help you understand and speak better about different topics

today's topic is dreams now let's get started

have you ever had a really interesting dream dreaming is something we do every

night and they can be very fun to talk about let's talk about some vocabulary

words you could use to talk about your dreams today's words are daydream

imagination fantasy nightmare and imagery our first

word today is daydream in this word we see the words day and dream when we

daydream we are not sleeping daydreaming means we are lost in thought or thinking

about something so deeply that we are not paying attention daydream is a verb

so we can use it in a sentence like this I was daydreaming for the whole class

is imagination imagination is a noun which comes from the verb imagine -

imagine means to form an image or idea in your mind for example if I say

imagine a pink cat you can see a pink cat in your mind imagination is what we

use to think of these pictures and ideas when we sleep and dream our imaginations

are very active let's use it in a sentence my imagination was wild last

night I had a dream that I was on a roller coaster in space with a green

giraffe and Taylor Swift the third word today is fantasy

this word can be a noun or an adjective we can also turn this word into the verb

fantasize today we'll talk about the noun form of this word a fantasy is

something you imagine that is very improbable or impossible

you could have a fantasy about becoming a famous musician for example this means

that you think about it and you imagine it or daydream about it but it probably

won't happen let's use it in a sentence getting a pet is many children's fantasy

next is the word nightmare nightmare is a noun and it is a very bad dream

we can use this word to talk about actual bad dreams we have when we are

sleeping for example last night I had a nightmare that I was being chased by

zombies and sharks often nightmares are scary and make us feel afraid or very

sad we can also use this word to talk about things in real life that are

really bad for example traffic was a nightmare this morning our last word

today is imagery this noun is a high-level vocabulary word in this word

you see the word image which means picture imagery is a word that refers to

pictures and their meaning or symbols for example the imagery of a red heart

might mean love and a dove might mean peace there can be a lot of imagery in

our dreams and some people like to think about what that means for example if you

dream about chased by a bear that might mean you are

afraid of something in your life let's use it in a sentence my dream last night

had really interesting imagery there were pink forests and a red sky I wonder
