yes teacher I have a lot of questions  about learning English please

okay then why don't you come here so  everybody can know what questions you have

good morning teacher my name is Jefferson I  have a lot of questions about learning English

morning Jefferson nice to meet you  sure tell me what are your questions

yeah but first I want to know  where you are from because to  

learn English we need a native English teacher

and from us but who told you you need a  native English teacher to learn English

yeah that's the only way to learn English  right because they are the best teachers

it's true they know how people naturally speak but  that's great to practice speaking and listening  

they can be great to have conversations but not  all Native English teachers are excellent teachers

sometimes all you need is a teacher who can teach  you very well especially if you are starting

you need someone to explain the basics of a  language to you well that's very important

and a native English teacher is great if you  already know that to practice conversation

I think you are right but  what are the advantages and  

disadvantages of having a native English teacher

alright teacher then what can I do if  I can't find the right word in English

when English is not your first language it is  

normal to get nervous and have the  fear of not finding that right word  

getting stuck in the middle of a sentence  is more normal than you might think

especially when you are in front of your  manager teacher or other native English speakers

to avoid this kind of situation don't  overthink or stress other grammar mistakes

learn vocabulary in chunks blocks and  learn to paraphrase if you do get stuck and  

cannot find the right word first of all don't  panic nobody's perfect and we all get stuck  

sometimes take a deep breath relax use one  of the phrases below and start over again  

for example ask sorry what was I saying  excuse me where were we that can work or  

post and be open I lost my train of thought repeat  the beginning of the sentence or use other words  

I'll start again sorry I meant to say that let  me rephrase that actually what I meant to say  

was that gain Time by drinking water or asking  a question I did it when I was learning English

I like that idea it's very useful and how can I  explain something if I can't find the exact word  

I know how to explain it in my  own language but when I try to  

explain it in English I can't find exact  words this is probably one of the most  

common concerns among our Learners  and it is especially frustrating

when you have a vast knowledge of a topic in one  language but then you are not able to express it

so clearly in English what can you do try the  following tips use synonyms and similar words  

think of words that mean the same or almost  the same for example woman girl kid child  

make it simple rephrase it in a more simple  way without having to use that word for example  

if you want to say my knowledge is vast but  it's difficult to you you can say I know a lot  

of things say the opposite use antonyms to State  the opposite of what you have in mind for example  

if you want to say that a person is silly but you  don't know that word you can say that person is  

not intelligent or if you don't know a word you  can describe it with basic words for example car

it's a vehicle with four wheels you can  use it to go to different places you see

yeah much better thank you how can I improve  my fluency in English and my confidence

this is the next million dollar question how to  improve fluency and confidence in speaking English

well easier said than done if you  want to become fluent in English

the first thing you need is  not to be afraid of making  

mistakes remember that being fluent in a language

does not mean that you can speak perfectly rather  it means that you can express yourself easily

second practice makes perfect find friends  colleagues or a native English teacher

that can help you with this part the more you  speak the more natural it will feel for sure

I've already said this many times but shadowing  is a very good technique to practice English

first listen to a video or movie as You Follow  the text then practice mimicking the speaker

and repeat exactly the same words with the  same pronunciation and intonation that's it

fixed phrases and idioms are very common  among native speakers if you learn them

now if you want to know more about these fixed  phrases and idioms to speak English let me know

that would be great teacher do I really  need to sound like a native English speaker

no you don't we all have our own  accent and also native English speakers

but you don't need to sound exactly like  them to communicate in English unless

unless your goal is to sound like an American  or British English speaker it will depend on you

but what you really need to have is the  fluency that is what you should focus on

the accent and the way your  English sound is something you  

will focus on later first learn to speak fluently

you're right teacher but if I want to sound  British for example uh how can I do that

you can improve your accent  by mimicking your favorite  

actor or actress shadowing as I told you before
