Irregular Comparatives and Superlatives in English

Hi there. Welcome to Harry's World of Words and Phrases and English in a

Minute. We're now going to look at the comparative and superlative forms of

adjectives and adverbs. If you remember in a previous video we looked at regular

adjectives. Tall Taller Tallest. Big Bigger Biggest. Now we're going to look

at irregular adjectives. Let's give you some examples. Let's take the two words

Good and Bad. Often in lessons I hear more good or more bad and that's wrong.

It's incorrect. So let me give you the rules. Good becomes good better best. And

bad becomes bad worse and worst. This camera is a good camera. This is a better

camera. But that is the best camera. This camera is a bad camera. That camera is a

worse camera. But this camera is the worst camera. So good better best. Bad

worse and worst. These are examples of irregular adjectives. Let me give you

another hint where there's a little bit of a difference when we're using small

and little. So when we're using little try and use it with amounts. For example,

little less least. I would like little milk in my coffee.

I would like less milk in my coffee. I would like the least amount of

milk in my coffee. But when you want to talk about size, for example, smaller

boy then it's small smaller smallest. He is a small boy. He is smaller than his cousin.
