Business English Phrases: Breaks & Productivity

Do you know the smartest way to learn business? English phrases, surprise.

It's by practicing phrases that are related to one topic

together. This way it helps you to remember the phrases better,

and you can actually use them in a conversation about a specific

topic. And that's what we're gonna do in today's lesson. Now,

today's topic breaks, yay, productivity, yay,

and burnout. Uh, a fun topic just before the holidays, right?

But maybe that's because I don't know. We all need a break. Hi,

All right,

let's discover some new business English expressions about what happens

when people don't take vacations and listen

for the new expressions and try to understand them

as I'm speaking about this topic. Now, you'll also,

you'll see the vocabulary and you'll also see, um,

a definition on the screen to help you to understand.

But what I recommend that you do is watch the video with the visuals

on the screen,

and then maybe go back and just listen and try to understand

without seeing the words, just a suggestion. You know, you do, you do,

you do you, you do what you want. Um, anyway, here we go. Now,

many people in the us, for example, opt out of their vacation days.

They just decide to not take them.

And for employers, you know,

this might seem like a dream come true,

but it's not. In fact,

team members who don't go on vacation are more stressed out.

And in fact,

people who work straight through the year are actually

less productive. They don't work as well,

they don't accomplish as much,

and they're more likely to get sick. Did you hear and see,

um, all of those expressions that you can use for talking about, uh,

breaks and vacations, et cetera? Well,

now see if you can find and understand these expressions

about taking breaks,

Taking regular breaks,

like a vacation is necessary for your work life balance.

Companies that promote vacations offer a better work-life balance to their

employees.

That means that they're likely to have better teams because

well, companies, they have to compete for the best talent. I mean,

especially nowadays with all of the difficulties in hiring,

you know,

great people and there are only so many talented people to go

around,

and they might take the job with better pay or better

vacation policies, vacation time off, time away from work.

Call it what you want. It has the same effect.

More vacation stimulates innovation.

It encourages creativity.

And that means that taking a break away from your work

makes it more likely that you'll come up with new and better

ideas.

Having more vacation time also provides burnout relief.

That means that vacations,

they help people who have become so stressed that their productivity suffers

or stops completely. And taking time off,

taking that vacation could also help employees or entrepreneurs

to become healthy again. And I mean,

it may seem like a no-brainer, but relieving burnout,

even better at preventing burnout helps you to make better decisions.

from, um, the us visiting my family and all of that. Um,

I'm not going to promise anything, um,

because I don't want want to put that pressure on myself to, uh,

produce videos while I'm there. But I mean,

if the inspiration strikes, um, definitely, um,

I will share some, uh,

postcards from the states with you. Um, and, you know,

definitely our team is going to be, um, taking a little bit of a break, uh,

as well. So I hope that you also will take a break during this time,

recharge your batteries and come back in 2023,

um, feeling refreshed and energized and creative

and ready to make it a great year. All right,
